Situated on the Northeast coast of the Peloponnese, the quaint seaport town of Nafplio is notable for its gorgeous beaches and proximity to the ruins of Mycenae and Tiryns. Nafplio is regarded as one of the most beautiful towns in the Argolis and was the first capital of the Greek state from 1823-1934. Nafplio features ancient walls, medieval castles, gorgeous monuments, Ottoman fountains and Venetian-style buildings made a stroll through Nafplio a unique and historically enriching experience. Visitors have the opportunity to scale 999 steps to reach the amazing vista from the 18th century Palamidi Castle, shop at the adorable town square, or dine at delicious restaurants along the port. The Bronze Age citadels of Mycenae and Tiryns are a quick drive from the picturesque Nafplio and are a must for anyone who travels to this area.
