Knossos- 7/31

The grand Minoan Palatial center of Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and was once the center of the oldest Aegean civilization. Knossos is linked to the legendary King Minos, the labyrinth, and the Minotaur.  Knossos was inhabited for thousands of years and began with a Neolithic settlement in the seventh millennium BC.British Archaeologist, Sir Arthur Evans, excavated the site in the very beginning of the 20th century and restored many parts of the palace into the multistoried structures that stand today. During its height, the palace would have had been quite a sight to behold, complete with seemingly modern luxuries like running water and mechanical ventilation! Rooms were decorated with exquisite frescoes and the vast nature of the palace is incredibly impressive. Knossos thrived until its collapse in c. 1375 BC and serves as an incredible example of the complex and sophisticated nature of Minoan Crete.
