Delphi- 7/20-7/21

The PanHellenic sanctuary of Delphi was believed to be the navel, or center of the world. Striking mountains and lush greenery surround this gorgeous spot in the Valley of Phocis. The beauty of the region makes it easy to understand why Delphi was of religious significance for the Greeks. The Mycenaeans worshipped their earth goddess in Delphi and in the 8th century BC the cult of Apollo was established at the site. People from all over the Mediterranean, North Africa, and Asia Minor would visit Delphi to consult the famous Oracle at Delphi. The site was home to the Pythian Games and has some very important monuments including the Temple of Apollo, the Athenian Treasury, Tholos, Stoa of the Athenians, and the Siphnian Treasury. The modern town of Delphi features wonderful antique shops, stores, cliff-side restaurants, and art galleries. While in Delphi make sure to visit the Delphi Archaeological Museum to view one of the most impressive collections ancient art in Greece.
